Crítica de VOLBEAT – «Servant Of The Mind» | Universal Music

El octavo disco de los daneses me ha sorprendido a mí el primero, debo admitirlo y tras escucharlo no puedo estar más complacido con poder degustar de sus nuevos trece temas. El álbum mantiene la esencia y el sonido propio de la banda, lo que es su sello de identidad y eso es siempre muy importante pero además puedo asegurar que estamos ante su disco más agresivo de su carrera. Y este pensamiento nada tiene que ver con que la banda haya cambiado de estilo, como señalaba arriba, Volbeat mantiene su esencia, pero si es cierto que este disco ofrece pasajes más contundentes muy bien armonizados con secciones lentas y más rockeras.
Es más iré un paso más allá, pero en el inicio del tema «The Sacred Stones», esos acordes me hicieron inmediatamente recordar los de Slayer en el «South Of Heaven» obviamente guardando las distancias, pero cuando levas años en esto es imposible evitar que ciertos temas nuevos o pasajes, te recuerden clásicos del pasado y esto fue lo que me hizo recordar al escuchar este tema. Claro esta que luego va por otros caminos, pero no quería evitar haceros llegar esta sensación. No esta de más deciros que el corte transita por unos medios tiempos muy potentes, haciendo que pronto el corte te envuelva por completo, sobre todo por esa base rítmica, constante y aplastante a partes iguales. Hacia el final del tema, tenemos un cambio de ritmo y un solo poderoso que nos conducirá hasta el final del corte de manera brillante.
Pero es que el disco esta lleno de episodios fuertes más cercanos al thrash metal clásico como en «Becoming» toda una declaración de intenciones o la melódica «Say No More» con un punteo de guitarra sensacional o la inicial «Temple Of Ekur». Mas heavy suenan «Heaven’s Decent», «Shotgun Blues», incluso algo de Punk con «The Passenger» o una de mis favoritas «Step Into Light» por su densidad en el inicio y estructura, otra joya de corte.
«Servant Of The Mind» es un álbum lleno de matices, sumamente heterogéneo que no te permitirá aburrirte y te sumirá en una escucha atenta y divertida. No es sencillo conseguir un disco tan diverso y animado, manteniendo tu estilo y dando un paso adelante en fuerza y vigor. Incluso con sus dos únicos temas más distintos como «Wait A Minute My Girl» con ese piano y saxofón, muy rockabilly en sus sensaciones o la invitada Stine Bransem en » Dagen Før» el corte más Pop rock del disco. Volbeat ha conseguido un balance total en este disco bastante llamativo y eso es un detalle muy importante a tenerles en cuenta.
Si no eres un seguidor de Volbeat como lo era yo, escucha «Servant Of The Mind» y dales una oportunidad de degustar una banda original y con ello entenderás mejor su propuesta y te abrirá un abanico de posibilidades queriendo descubrir sus anteriores siete discos. Lo admito de nuevo, la banda no terminaba de cuajarme, pero a veces tiene que llegar a tu mesa una posibilidad de entrevista y con ello una escucha pormenorizada para empezar a explorar una enorme agrupación.
«Servant Of The Mind» es un disco en donde ningún tema sobra y marcará un antes y un después en su carrera, espero que no se dejen ningún corte en futuros directos el año que viene, porque todos tienen mucho que decir. Un disco sorprendente de inicio a final. Muy recomendado.

The eighth album by the Danes has surprised me the first, I must admit it and after listening to it I cannot be more pleased with being able to taste their new thirteen songs. The album maintains the essence and the sound of the band itself, which is its hallmark and that is always very important, but I can also assure you that we are looking at their most aggressive album of their career. And this thought has nothing to do with the band having changed their style, as I pointed out above, Volbeat maintains its essence, but it is true that this album offers more forceful passages very well harmonized with slower and more rocky sections.
In fact, I will go a step further, but at the beginning of the song «The Sacred Stones», those chords immediately made me remember those of Slayer in the «South Of Heaven» obviously keeping the distances, but when you spend years in this it is impossible to avoid that certain new themes or passages remind you of classics from the past and this was what made me remember when listening to this theme. Of course, then it goes other ways, but I did not want to avoid giving you this feeling. It is worth telling you that the cut goes through very powerful mid-beats, making the cut soon envelop you completely, especially because of that rhythmic, constant and crushing base in equal parts. Towards the end of the song, we have a change of pace and a powerful solo that will lead us to the end of the cut brilliantly.
But is that the album is full of strong episodes closer to classic thrash metal as in «Becoming» a declaration of intentions or the melodic «Say No More» with a sensational guitar pick or the initial «Temple Of Ekur». More heavy they sound «Heaven’s Decent», «Shotgun Blues», even something of Punk with «The Passenger» or one of my favorites «Step Into Light» for its density in the beginning and structure, another jewel of court.
«Servant Of The Mind» is an album full of nuances, extremely heterogeneous that will not allow you to get bored and will plunge you into an attentive and fun listening. It’s not easy to get such a diverse and lively album, keeping your style and taking a step forward in strength and vigor. Even with his only two more different songs like «Wait A Minute My Girl» with that piano and saxophone, very rockabilly in his sensations or the guest Stine Bransem in «Dagen Før» the most Pop rock cut of the album. Volbeat has achieved a total balance in this quite striking album and that is a very important detail to keep in mind.
If you are not a follower of Volbeat like I was, listen to «Servant Of The Mind» and give them a chance to taste an original band and with this you will better understand their proposal and open a range of possibilities for you wanting to discover their previous seven albums. I admit it again, the band was not finished with me, but sometimes a possibility of an interview and with it a detailed listening to begin to explore a huge group has to arrive at your table.
«Servant Of The Mind» is an album where no song is superfluous and will mark a before and after in his career. I hope they won’t leave any cuts in future live shows next year, because everyone has a lot to say. A surprising album from start to finish. Highly recommended.
